One Another One
Multiples, Repetitions, Patterns

New Sculpture by Chris Beards

March 2—April 8, 2012

The Quicksilver Mine Co. in downtown Forestville presents One Another One, a one-man exhibition of new work by Willits artist and sculptor Chris Beards beginning March 2nd.

"Horizon Line," by Chris Beards
"Horizon Line," Patterned burned wood, steel, bubble levels, graphite, acrylic paint, 37" X 22" X 4", 2011

Chris Beards mines his world for sculptural media, exploring repetition, multiples, and repeating patterns. Reclaimed wood, zip ties, fabric, found objects, paper, metal, plastic pellets and containers, bubble levels, and paint become part of his palette. Concrete blocks, patterned burned wood, and crib sides are transformed through his obsessive process, hours spent in a self-imposed assembly line, repeating tasks over and over.

"This body of work is an attempt at making sense through organizational methods. Structure, context, and meaning are created and explored through experiments with organized patterns and repetition in a variety of media," says the artist. "I organize a finite amount of similar items using repeated tasks…to create a unified concept. I gather a group and try to create one voice for it…One Another One."

Recent solo shows include exhibitions at Merced College, the Graves Museum of Art in Eureka, and Tangerine Gallery, Ukiah. This is his second one-man show at Quicksilver.
