DOUBLECOUNTERPOINT

A solo show of recent work
by Chiyomi Taneike Longo

October 10 - November 23, 2003

The Quicksilver Mine Co. presents a one-woman exhibition of recent work by painter Chiyomi Taneike Longo from October 10 through November 23, 2003.

Longo's newer paintings combine elements of her earlier work - grid patterns, stamped and drawn geometric forms, free-form brush strokes of oil and acrylic paint - with layered paper collage.

"These newer works feature collage utilizing a wrapping paper used to ship articles from Japan. It has a different pattern, front and back, and in fact is two different thin papers that separate and tear in a random pattern which I find exciting and stimulating," Longo says. "I have included these papers as a primary element in my new work."

Born in Japan, Chiyomi Longo immigrated to the United States in the 1950's. She studied in Illinois and Hawaii before completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Recent solo exhibitions include shows at the Ren Brown Collection (Bodega Bay, California), Cervini-Haas Gallery (Scottsdale, Arizona), Renshaw Gallery at Linfield College (Oregon), and the Olga Dollar Gallery in San Francisco, California.
