"The Sweet Heartley"
16" X 26" X 12", 2004 |
For his wonderful Fryin' Fountain, Monty started with a rusty old 1930's clothes washing machine, and several vintage frying pans- "red hot skillets" - and ended up with a fantastical water fountain, "out of the frying pan and into the fountain!" Also included in this show are the "Sweet Heartley", a "Turpentine Tractor", "Tinman the Fisherman", and a runaway "Santa Fe Train Engine".
Monty, who quit his job as a graphic artist four years ago to work on his art full time, has exhibited at the Sonoma County Cultural Arts Council Gallery in Santa Rosa, and the Quicksilver Mine Co.'s former gallery location in Sebastopol. He is also a regular exhibitor at Next Level Communications (now Motorola) bi-annual art "Rotations" in Rohnert Park, as well as a participant in the Cultural Arts Council's annual juried artist studio tour, Artrails.
"The Sweet Heartley" is just plain sweet. It is a metaphor for the heart. It is the well-made machine that takes us down life's highways and back roads. It is the sweetheart that holds us close and allows us to experience a life full of emotions. "The Sweet Heartley" paves the way for great adventures. It carries you through life's tight turns while hugging you, and the road you are on. This sweet machine is dedicated to the sweethearts in our lives, and is loaded with all the sweet features that life has to offer. How sweet it is!
